White on White Easter

Good Monday morning! I hope you all had a fabulous weekend! I've got a card for you that I did for one of the VSN challenges on Splitcoast this weekend. The challenge was to use all white cardstock, with only touches of color if necessary. Well, of course COLOR is necessary, but I tried to keep as much white space as possible.

I used the stamp set Greenhouse Garden to stamp the flowers, then added the Easter sentiment in the center. The edges are a bit distressed and the top corners punched with Scallop Trim corner punch, then layered on another piece of white paper. The card base is white also, but with a very subtle texture added with the dotted Texturz Plates and the Big Shot.

I'm so glad you stopped by today! Why don't you leave me a message so I know you've been here! Have a great day!

Happy Birthday Dear!

It's a beautiful sunny morning here in Ohio, and we are celebrating my husband's birthday today. Last night we enjoyed a fun family dinner at a Buffalo Wings place and had a great time! Today I'm sharing this card for you that we all signed for him. I made this on Friday during the SCS Virtual Stamp Night challenges. For this challenge they posted the Official Olympic Sweater as our inspiration... I didn't know there was such a thing.

The colors, pattern, texture and even the use of the deer were all intended to mimic the sweater. The funny thing is when I was all done with this card I was sitting and just gazing at it trying to decide if it needed anything else when my husband, unprompted and from across the room, says "did you just make that? It looks really cool from over here." That's when I decided it must be perfect as it is. LOL!

My main deer is from Wildlife Reserve, while the deer head repeated at the top is from Nature Silhouettes and the Happy Birthday repeated across the bottom is the most current, from Vintage Labels Sale-a-Bration set. I thought the Lattice Die would be a neat pattern to add, though it is tougher than I thought to piece it together. I used the pieces that fall out for the row at the top. Middle gray piece is embossed with the embossing folder (can't remember what it's called.)

Thanks for stopping by for a visit! Stop back tomorrow!

Inukshuk Inspired!

This weekend is a VSN at Splitcoast. Wondering what that is? It stands for Virtual Stamp Night. It's a monthly event, I think, where hourly challenges are posted and guests are welcome to participate in as many or as few as they choose. I normally don't do much stamping on the weekends but last night was an exception. I forgot to mention that all challenges are Olympic themed so the Inukshuk symbol is the sketch for our first challenge.

I thought it would be tough at first but it didn't take long to figure something out. In fact, I used ALL scraps sitting on my desk! There is a time limit of 45 minutes for every card so I timed myself and this one took me 27 minutes once I started.
For the multicolored packages I stamped the image from Happy Moments (free with a $50 order right now!) three times, once on each color, then cut them out. The package was also stamped on the white paper so the ribbon shows up.

I used the Big Shot and Perfect Polka Dot Impressions folder on the Melon Mambo pieces at the bottom (stamped image first of course!) The two buttons have a little sliver of Melon Mambo paper to look like thread.

The Kiwi Kiss piece was on my desk- leftover from an old Simply Scrappin' Kit that I can't recall the name of.

Thanks for stopping by and checking it out! Maybe you'll go play along?!

VSN! What's that?!

Virtual Stamp Night! SCS hosts this once a month I believe and this is the first time I've participated. Every hour they give a stamp challenge and you have 45 minutes to complete it. I believe they award some prizes, but I was just enjoying the various challenges!

Here's what I made so far. I'll hopefully have more to post later too!

For this one (FEB09VSNH) we were to think of something we are almost obsessed with a make a card around that thing. Besides stamping, the first thing that came to mind was my Earl Grey tea (if I'm stamping I am generally also sipping on some hot tea)! This one took me 41 minutes. I like the concept behind this one, using the scalloped envelope to hold the tea bag, but this turned out way gawdier than I anticipated. But it was a challenge and it's complete so then I moved on...

Stampin' Up! Supplies:
Stamps: Fifth Avenue Floral, Frames With a Flourish, Wonderful Favorites
Cardstock: Brilliant Blue, Basic Black, Brushed Silver
Accessories: Silver EP, black brads, Scalloped Envelope Die, Big Shot. Non-SU: silver ribbon, tea bag.

This one was for FEB09VSNK: Long Lost Love. We were to find an old stamp set that used to be a favorite but hasn't been used for a long time. For mine I had tons of choices since I've yet to ever part with a stamp set, but I chose an old SAB set called Paint Prints from 2005. I really enjoyed this one and completed it in only 34 minutes! This stamp set is hard to mess up. I just chose a color scheme from the color wheel (in fact, I closed my eyes and spun, determined to use whatever I turned to- a very scientific process!) I grabbed some scraps, and went to town. The Not Quite Navy card base is stamped with Canvas in Very Vanilla ink. I went with a shabby look with the roughed up edges, and the Canvas stamp helped out with that. There's some canvas stamped on the flower too.

Stampin' Up! Supplies:
Stamps: Paint Prints, Canvas
Paper: Not Quite Navy, Sage Shadow, More Mustard, Very Vanilla
Accessories: 5-petal flower punch, spiral punch, Earth Elements brads, distressing tool, sponge.

The last challenge I completed was FEB09VSNL, "A Wee Bit 'O Love". We were to use Inchies for this one. What is an inchy? As far as I can tell, basically a 1" square of whatever you want. We could use as many or as few as we wanted, and they could be stamped or not. I've heard of this fad before and hadn't ever gotten it, but I have to admit they are fun, easy and quite addicting. I could think of so many ways to finish off my cards that I could've kept going and going. The one on the left is made up of entirely SAB freebies that are available right now. The one on the right is the same DSP, but I used a SAB stamp set from last year as well as a brad from the Styled Silver Hodgepodge collection. My photos were taken last night, so they aren't the best.

Stampin' Up! Supplies:
Stamps: Polka Dot Punches, Yummy, Very Punny
Cardstock: Sahara Sand, Basic Gray, Delicate Dots DSP
Accessories: Wide Saffron Ribbon (SAB), Word Window Punch, Styled Silver Hodgepodge.

Thanks for stopping by!
