True Friend

This was probably inspired by some sketch challenge a few months back, but since it has been that long since I made it I don't have any clue which one.  It does showcase a few of the new items I have from the current catalog... Epic Day DSP (LOVE this paper!), Feels Good stamp set and the In Color Dahlia layered on a Brushed Bronze button.  Clean and simple.

Are you ready to start thinking fall colors??

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a safe and fabulous Labor Day weekend.  I am hoping to get one last loop around the lake on the skis.

Friend to Friend- fifth in the series

Ooh, isn't that paper just wonderful?  I adore it with this Gumball Green Satin Stitched ribbon!  And the Stripes Embossing Folder...  That butterfly brad is another from that old Everyday Enchantment collection.  Have any of those left?  I still have a few- will be sad when I run out!

Thanks for stopping by today.  One more left in the series I think.  Enjoy!

Forever Friend

You know the kind.  That friend you've had forever that you can go months without seeing but nothing changes, you're comfortable together, you start right where you left off without missing a beat.  That's a Forever Friend.  This card is a CASE of the one on page 133 of the new Stampin' Up! Idea Book & Catalog.  Have you seen it yet?  It is beautiful and full of MUST HAVES and I've linked it over on the right so you can see it online if you don't have it in person.  The list of words on the sample from Fabulous Phrases are perfectly lined up so I'm guessing the Stamp-a-Majig was used.  Obviously I eyeballed mine, but I'm OK with that.  I'm guessing my friend will be too!

Speaking of the Stamp-a-Majig, if you have one and have no clue how to use it or have no idea what I'm talking about, see page 37!  A VERY good, simple explanation of how to use it!  Come to think of it, there are lots of little tips and handy tricks in this new catalog which will make it a great resource to have.  If you would like a catalog let me know and I can get you hooked up!

Here's a quick shot at the inside.  I tried to match my embossing to the scalloped edge and it didn't quite reach... but it worked out because I had the perfect place to add a little flower to tie it to the front.  Hope you are feeling inspired!  Let me know which idea you are going to CASE in the new catalog.

Goodbye I {Heart} Hearts

Saying goodbye on May 31st to I {Heart} Hearts as well as Short & Sweet, which is a go to sentiment set for me.  I loved playing with this sketch from Clean & Simple- so many possibilities!  Had to utilizing my new Adorning Accents Edgelits for the side panels on the sketch just for a unique flair.  Love combining new stuff with older stuff!  Also added a clear heart button and some white baker's twine.  So what do you think?
For the inside I had to use a few scraps of the Newsprint DSP that almost went in the trash.  Love recycling!  Also, this well-loved sentiment set Curvy Verses will saying goodbye as well.  *Sniff sniff*

Thanks for visiting today, so glad to have you!  Hope you've found some inspiration here.

Goodbye Pocket Silhouettes

Good evening!  Is everyone ready for a fantastic weekend??  I'm starting out right.  After several days of no stamping I enjoyed a few hours of pure stamping bliss... and since my hubby and kiddos will be turkey hunting all weekend I plan to continue stamping all weekend! Made 6 cards total.  First up is this one using this week's Mojo Monday sketch as well as the Color Throwdown challenge colors!!

Since Stampin' Up! unveiled their retirement list this week I decided to showcase some of my favorites sets that will only be available through the end of May.  I'd hate to have someone miss out on owning these!

The retiring stamps I used here are Pocket Silhouettes and the French Filigree background stamp (embossed with Vanilla embossing powder).  Had to combine some of my current favorites with these oldies as well:  Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border punch, bitty punches, the new Labels Collection Framelits and of course Rhinestones!

Speaking of retiring stamps, don't forget to check out the list and make sure you grab what you've been eyeing!
Thanks for stopping by!  I'll be back tomorrow with more from the retiring list.

Clean & Simple Friend

As promised, here is another quick one using my current color challenge you can find here.  I also put to use the current Clean & Simple sketch challenge.  Aren't those scallops fun?  I have another idea for this sketch which I'll try one of these days.  I hope it works out!  You'll be the first to know if it does!

Picky like that

OK, alright, you guessed it.  I'm addicted to sketch challenges!  Frankly, I like them better than color challenges.  You see, I am picky about colors and combinations of colors and sometimes my mood even determines what colors I want to use.

(don't ask me what my favorite color is like my daughter does often.  I CAN'T possibly answer that.  Like I tell her, I like all colors, just not together, not for everything and not on certain days)

I kind of get the attitude like "don't tell me what colors to use"... but I'm fine being given a sketch.  In fact, I prefer it.  That probably says something about my brain and ability or lack thereof, to design.  That might also explain why I've resorted to giving YOU a color challenge.  I'm bossy like that.

So today I've used a sketch from Pals Paper Arts.  Love it- gives me JUST enough to work with.  Gets those creative juices flowing.

Today I've also used some contraband.  Shhh.  The only reason I'm pointing it out is because otherwise I imagine I'll get someone asking where in the SU catalog are those embossing folders I used.  No where.  Well, not entirely true.  I used my trusty polka dots, so of course you can find them.  And the newer one (the oval frame) called Designer Frames.  Those are in there too.  The others, not so much.  They are in a set of 5 skinny strip folders called With Love by Provocraft.  That's all I'm saying 'bout that.

And before you ask, here is the inside.  Crummy picture, even with all the editing in the world and beautiful sunlight.  Crappy camera (user).  That center piece is actually Pool Party which is why it looks so off white.
So after all the fuss, what do you think of my color combo?  I had it written down as a future challenge to use here... but got antsy and couldn't resist it.  (Same with yesterday's card!)  It is Concord Crush, Pool Party and Basic Gray.  With white of course.

Well, I already mentioned almost everything I used in this card but I know some of you aren't reading a word of this (can't blame you) and will just cut to the list of supplies if you even want to know.  So here it is, and thanks for stopping by!

True Friend

I found a few spare minutes to play today now that my kids are back in school- woo hoo!  Of course I'm a bit rusty so had to start out with not one but two different challenges to get going.  Don't complain, you're lucky I didn't do more.  LOL!

The sketch I used is from this week's sketch challenge on Splitcoast:  SC347.  Love it!  I also decided to "Soften the edges" per Pals Paper Art's PPA108.  I rounded one corner of the card then decided that wasn't quite enough and since the other edges were all glued down I  distressed the rest of the edges instead.

Here's the inside as well.   Hope you like it.  I'm thrilled with the results!  Even used my new Simply Scrappin' Kit from the Summer Mini Catalog called Playful Polka Dots (page 15) and the new twisted Baker's Twine in Cherry Cobbler.  Finally I added a few rhinestones for a finishing touch.

Let me know what you think!  Thanks for stopping by.

Ooh, almost forgot... Tiffany Bauer honored me by featuring THIS card of mine as one of her weekly picks on Aug. 14th.  Sorry it's taken so long to acknowledge it Tiffany, and thank you for the honor!

Friend

Hello!  Are you interested in seeing another sketch challenge card from me??  I love the Card Patterns blog and their fabulous sketches!  It is saved in my favorites for places to go for inspiration!

This is my first use of the hostess set A Slice of Life.  I went with a color combo of Peach Parfait, Riding Hood Red, Early Espresso, Crumb Cake and some Very Vanilla.
The vase was actually painted with an aqua painter and some Early Espresso ink.  Not sure why it has the rosy tint, but it works with the colors.  I covered it with a layer of Crystal Effects for a bit of dimension and shine.

Notice the Peach Parfait organdy ribbon?  I dyed it myself by holding it onto the Peach Parfait ink pad with a sponge and just pulling it across multiple times.  Didn't take long and I have a customized ribbon!

I hope you like it!  I'll be back tomorrow with another DCBD challenge for you to try your hand at.  Thank you for the comments lately- they have meant a lot and they surely keep me stamping!

Stamped My Heart Out!

It's been way too long- too much time away from stamping... so when I sat down to create for an upcoming workshop (after borrowing TONS of mini catalog stuff from my downline Jen, thanks Jen!) I couldn't stop!  I stamped off and on for three days I think.  Of course there were several interruptions since my hubby is out of town but I got seven cards done!!  Here are the first two I'm showing you.

This first one was done with the new Sale-a-Bration set called Punch Bunch as well as some of the Ice Cream Parlor DSP .  I also tried a new technique out that I learned on Stampin' 411 called Embossed Backgrounds.  Do you see the embossed arrows?  Those were punched with the My Way arrow punch then ran through the Big Shot as shown on the awesome tutorial.  I LOVE to dry emboss with the Big Shot and this opens up fabulous new possibilities limited only by your punch and die cut selections!  Stay tuned, I'll show you another card using this technique on Wednesday for Diva Day!  The sketch for this card is from Pals Paper Arts- PPA81.

Here is another card that is very closely inspired by one in the Stampin' Success magazine that SU Demos get each month.  It is full of fantastic articles and samples to keep us inspired!  See that tiny delicate scallop at the top and bottom??  I used the Dotted Scalloped Ribbon Border punch that I thought I could live without and now know I can't!

I hope you like these.  I'll be sure to be back with more.  Tuesday I'll show you the projects my ladies did at the workshop I'm having tomorrow!

Have a great day!

Dog-gone good friend!

Guess what, it's time for another Diva challenge. And let me tell ya, it's a toughy! I am the first one to admit I'm not a fan of bold bright colors... well, I should say I'm not a fan of them together! I love a splash of bold even a tidal wave of bold with some neutrals or other less bold tones. So this really challenged me and I feel like I almost cheated adding in my favorite Crumb Cake (kraft) neutral and totally skimping on two of the colors. But I'm in charge around here and I say I didn't cheat- so there. LOL!

With all that said, I am pretty dog-gone happy with this card! I initially intended to add my old Paw Tracks wheel to the mix with this super cute new doggie stamp from the new Level 1 Hostess set Long Fellows, then it dawned on me that I haven't used my Pawsitively Sizzlit that die cuts and embosses this paw print at the same time. How cool is that?! If you're not familiar with this Sizzlit it is part of the Build-a-Bear line of SU products. If you're not familiar with them that's my fault- I don't "do" Build-a-Bear stuff. Just not my thing and fortunately we don't live close enough that my kids have ever asked to go build a bear or any other animal for that matter. But I digress.

So I first stamped the image in Basic Brown so I could watercolor him without worrying about smudging. Then squished some Crumb Cake ink into the lid and watercolored the little guy with my aquapainter. I sponged some Crumb Cake ink around the edges of my paw prints as well. The one in the metal edge frame was punched out with the 1 1/4" circle punch so it would fit. I was somewhat going for a dog tag look there, in case you didn't put that together.

Anyway, I hope you'll rise to the challenge and play along with the Divas yet again this week! At the very least go visit the blog and see more fun samples with this crazy color combo.

Thanks for stopping by and bearing with my wise cracks.

{friend to friend} A Diva Challenge

Today is a Diva Coffee Break Designs Day- and we are offering up a fabulous color challenge! Cameo Coral, So Saffron and Chocolate Chip! When I saw this color combo in our lineup a few weeks ago I couldn't wait to try it! I have several other ideas in mind but don't have time to put them to paper right now.

I used Cameo Coral as my card base since it will no longer be with us as of July 1. Paying tribute ahead of time I guess. I've always been a supporter of Cameo when it gets dissed by other stampers! Circle Circus is the stamp set of choice today. Pretty straight-forward, don't ya think?!

Stampin' Tip: Need a boost to get your card making started? Find a card with a layout you love, switch out the colors, change up the stamps and voila! That's what I did here. Here is the card layout that I copied for this card.

Hope you have a great day, and please go check out the Diva blog for more inspiration so you can play along too!

Stenciled Wonderful Friend

Today I noticed on SoShelli.com (Stampin' Up!'s CEO, Shelli Gardner's personal blog) that the challenge for March is to use a stencil for a project. Love that idea! I bought a pack of the Folk Flowers Decor Stencils from the Occasions Mini Catalog a while back and have only used them once or twice. In fact, I hadn't used this pattern at all yet. So I was excited to get it out and play! This time I sponged Whisper White ink onto only certain parts of the design to get this look.

I added a few extra touches with the Scallop Trim edge at the top and some piercing and dotted grosgrain at the bottom. I really wanted a Melon Mambo brad for the center of the top flower, but since there aren't any I decided to just punch out the center of the flower with my 1/8" hold punch so the paper shows through.

The one part I'm not sure about is the dots on the "friend" piece. I think that might be a little over the top for my simple design. What do you think? I may just make another one just like it but leave the dots off and glue it right on top. I'll wait to hear from all of you though!

Stampin' Tips:
  • Only want to use part of a design in a stencil? Block off the other areas with strategically placed sticky notes. Have a smaller area to block off? Either tear the sticky note, or try using one of those sticky note flags that are really small.
  • Have old In Colors and not sure what to do with them? Why not try combining them with a current In Color for a fabulously unique color combo! (Shown here are Marigold Morning and Melon Mambo)
  • Don't have a brad in the color you need? Try punching a hole instead and allowing the paper to show through from behind!
  • Want to see more Decor Stencils? Click HERE to see SU's entire collection!
I hope you like it! Thanks for stopping by today. Feel free to go play along with Shelli's challenge- I'm sure she'd love to have you!

Sweet Sunday on a Wednesday!

Have been procrastinating today- avoiding getting my taxes together. Should be some great cards coming out of me in the near future- I'm a top notch procrastinator!! Came across Karen Giron's Sweet Sunday Sketch challenge and decided to try it out. I managed to clean my desk off today and ran across this Melon Mambo scalloped square with the heart punched out from another project, and decided to use it. Did two more in Soft Suede and Crushed Curry too.

What a great sketch- I had fun with it! Thanks Karen!
Stampin' Tips:
  • When you find a favorite challenge site or blog that really appeals to you SAVE it in your faves! Go there often!
  • Use scraps! (Did I say that yesterday?? It is a recurring theme for me.)
  • Tired of your embellishment selection? Look to your punches, combine them, and see what you come up with!

Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!

Good Wednesday!

Hello everyone! So glad you decided to stop by today! I've got two cards for you today as well as a Diva Sketch challenge. This Barely Banana card I made first, and the funny thing is I like it better in person... but once I uploaded them I liked the second one best on the computer screen. I've made both of mine into square cards which was the Clean & Simple challenge this week on SCS. I tried to also use Tuesday's color challenge (Always Artichoke, Crushed Curry and Basic Gray) but just couldn't go with it. So this one is Barely Banana with strips of Kraft (all scraps, thank you!), a flower blossom die cut with Thoroughly Modern DSP in Bermuda Bay, and a simple white circle. That's it. Oh, well I should mention the decorative circle brad as well!

This one just reminds me of a little beach hut with slats for walls that you can see the ocean through. OK, I admit I have a vivid imagination! You should hear about my wild detailed dreams! The blossom is in Cameo Coral and of course the circle is the Bermuda Bay again. The blue is my favorite Ballet Blue!
I just love experimenting with color, especially when I have a given sketch! I often punch or cut out multiple pieces in different colors just to see what I like. In this case I was able to make 2 complete cards with all my options (and still have some pieces laying here). That leads me to my first TIP...
Stampin' Tips:
  • Want to experiment with fun new color combos? Don't be afraid! Cut out those pieces, grab a scrap of something random, close your eyes and pick if you have to... I often choose something that my brain screams NO to but it can end up being just right. Be open minded and keep trying!
  • Avoid wasting paper! Don't avoid cutting it, but if it doesn't work out, that's OK. Just pop it into a large ziplock bag for that color or even color family. Whatever works for you! Then be sure to check that ziplock EVERY TIME before you grab for a full sheet of cardstock. Trust me, it works! I have one ziplock for every color family, including for each set of In Colors. It can get to be a mess sometimes so every now and then I have to go through and throw away the really tiny stuff. If you have the room, use a separate bag for each color and label it. It all depends on how you use color. If you want, have a bag for reds, one for blues etc. I also keep all my neutrals in separate bags. Then each bag is in my filing cabinet where I keep files of all my colors (organized by color family). Sometimes when I want them to look really pretty I'll put them in order how they are listed in the catalog- a beautiful perfect rainbow!

That's all for now! Thanks for stopping by! Be sure to go visit the Diva blog to play along.

~Kristin

{friend to friend}

Hi y'all! Here's my Diva card for today. We were given a simple sketch to work with and see what could be done. The nice thing about simple sketches is there are so many directions you can go with them- so many opportunities to make it your own!

I'm not sure how these colors happened- they just sort of fell into place from the scraps around my desk. This time I actually had the design somewhat decided before deciding to use this birdcage stamp from the Sale-a-Bration set called Happy Moments and the Two-Step Large Bird punch together.

Not sure how well it shows up but the wing on the bird is textured with the Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder. I used the distressing tool on the edges of the Old Olive piece and dotted the background with Soft Suede polka dots.

Hope you like it and consider playing along with the Diva's challenge this week!

Vintage Friends

Good morning! I've got a card for you today, can you believe it?!? This one is for yesterday's color challenge on SCS (CC251) as well as this week's Mojo Monday sketch! Haven't done one of those in a while... I'm so excited about how this turned out. I am not a fan of Dusty Durango so I tried to use it minimally here- and I just love it now! The smaller two flowers are stamped off once for a lighter shade but the big one is not stamped off.

Not sure if you can tell but the background is wheeled in Going Gray with the coordinating wheel to Vintage Vogue called Very Vintage. It is such a pretty wheel! The "F" for friends is embossed in black craft ink and clear embossing powder.

I had a few flowers left that I'd cut so I couldn't let them go to waste... I actually stamped on the inside! Can't wait to order my acryllic blocks from SU on the 5th... I've been stamping without any blocks-which is NOT GOOD!
Anyway, I hope you like it! Stop by tomorrow to see the birthday card I made for our son.

Love Bandit! {CAS46}

Today's Clean & Simple challenge on Splitcoast is a sketch challenge based on THIS adorable card by Lori Tecler! I've used it in two totally different ways. First up is using Love Bandit and I {Heart} Hearts which are both being released (in both wood and clear mount) in the Occasions Mini catalog from SU on January 5th!
Isn't that little raccoon cute? For this card I used the heart from the Movers & Shapers die to make a window in the front of the card. The "friend" heart showing through from the front was stamped with I {Heart} Hearts and punched with the full heart punch then raised with Stampin' Dimensionals. Just added some piercing around the heart opening and the racoon and called it done.

Here's my second take using Lori's card as inspiration. I was actually in a big hurry doing this one and the embossed scallop and snowflake were already in my unused stash from previous projects. I just added some Rose Red snowflakes to the chocolate card base, stamped the sentiment then added some ribbon.
Thanks for looking and have a great day! Come join us for the CAS challenge today if you'd like- we'd love to have you!

Your Friendship

Sorry I've been a bit irregular with my posting this week- it's been a busy one! Between a sick kid (again!), volunteering at school, Trick-or-Treating and the normal stuff I just haven't done much stamping. We also had our last regular season high school football game last night (my DH coaches) and their team went undefeated in the league! They are ready to head to the playoffs which could extend the season another 5 weeks potentially.

Anyway, on to the card... I used some of my new stuff for the first time including the stamp set Wings of Friendship which is a level 2 hostess set, the Texturz Plates Kit #4 (has the definition of Friend in it) and this beautiful vanilla taffeta ribbon. It is always a thrill to use new goodies for the first time! I am just loving the look of texturing the vanilla cardstock!

I also used the Fall-to-Layout #65 from the Clean & Simple challenge blog for the sketch. The color combo I just came up with myself. It is Rich Razzleberry, Apricot Appeal, Old Olive and a tiny touch of Pumpkin Pie on the bird's wing and chest. Speaking of the bird, in order to follow the sketch I first stamped the entire image including the bird, then trimmed it to a long narrow piece. Then restamped the bird and cut it out to pop up with dimensionals so it kind of stands off the card.

I hope you like it and am happy that you stopped by today! Have a great Saturday!
